The question most asked by people interested in mounted shooting is "Why should I join the CMSA and what will I get out of it." I'm always happy to hear this question for it gives me a chance to tell what the COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING ASSOCIATION is all about. First, let's look at the immediate direct benefits of the CMSA and then I'11 take the opportunity to explain the goals and plans for the growth of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. I'11 try to put in print what has been explained to so many new CMSA Competition Cardholders, beginning with the immediate benefits listed below.

A $45.00 CMSA Annual Competition Card entitles a cardholder to the following.

  • A current CMSA Rule Book
  • The "CMSA RUNDOWN" (The Quarterly Journal of the COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTING ASSOCIATION)
  • $10,000.00 accidental death and supplementary injury insurance for CMSA Competition Cardholders competing in CMSA competitions.
  • Eligibility to earn CMSA World Points which qualify contestants for the CMSA World Championship. Eligibility to enter major CMSA Competitions which require a CMSA Competition Card for all contestants.
  • A sponsor program that promotes tens of thousands of dollars in awards, merchandise and cash each year for CMSA competitors.

The CMSA is a national non-profit organization "Of Mounted Shooters, By Mounted Shooters and For Mounted Shooters". The CMSA only produces mounted shooting competitions and all benefits of our award and sponsorship program go entirely to mounted shooters. Mounted shooting is our main and only event, it's not another class or side event.

The CMSA is dedicated to the growth of cowboy mounted shooting as a major equestrian timed event where superior horses, horsemanship and shooting skills are of the utmost importance.

The goals of the CMSA are:

  1. To provide a concise set of rules and guidelines, that will enable CMSA cardholders to compete on a uniform and fair basis nationwide.
  2. To establish a net work of CMSA affiliated clubs that will produce local, state and regional mounted shooting events.
  3. To provide special benefits to CMSA Competition Cardholders.
  4. To maintain a national sponsorship program of the highest quality.

In the early stage of our development it is important that we remain loyal to our goals. We'll make mistakes and we must continually review and if necessary adjust our priorities. Most importantly we must all be willing to give more than we receive. We ask for your support. Help the CMSA establish cowboy mounted shooting as a sport for future generations.
